The goal of this project is to create a type and image based book that shows the reader why making things with your hands is invaluable. The book showcases a series of artists and makers who think human touch in art/ design is essential. The final booklet is 50 pages in length and consists of original writings, photography, art, and interview content. The booklet is French folded and Japanese stitch bound.
This project was printed on a transparent vellum that allowed me to approach of the book in a 3D sense. When designing, I was thinking 4 pages into the future and 4 pages into the past, developing considerate, conceptual, and intentional systems that carry the message and reinforce the meaning and tone of this work.
This book is a really impactful project for me personally as I have circled this topic in my thoughts for years without officially formed opinions and written experiences. This book is a physical byproduct of years of thoughts, gut feelings, and inarticulate truths held dear by myself and my community. Now they have been articulated for others to hopefully resonate with these words.
The content formatting in this book ebbs and flows in and out of order and disorder. It flows from structural to organic through the use of page layering, quote redaction (that then abstracts the hidden quote below, and hits the highpoint of the meaning). The first and last chapters are my own collections of thought. The 3 innermost chapters are interviews of some incredibly talented artists and makers.
